Vamos ahi!

Gracias a la genial iniciativa de Atina Chile de pedirle a los participantes dejar sus propuestas, fui y deje una propuesta a la que llame “Chile Multimedia”, el cual consiste en crear una red para promover a Chile en la web con sus contenidos audiovisuales mas experiencias vividas por extranjeros y chilenos en Chile. Estoy esperando a ver que sale de esto.

Widgetbox, creando o usando widgets para nuestra web

Widgetbox es un nuevo lugar en la red, perteneciente a la empresa PortalApp, por la que los desarrolladores podrán crear sus propios widgets partiendo de servicios web y los bloggers, entre otros usuarios, podrán escuger algunos de los widgets disponibles para poder insertarlos en su blog, perfil de su red social o en otro sitio web.

De momento está en fase beta privada, aunque al introducir tu dirección de correo te pregunta si eres blogger o desarrollador.

A esperar a que me llegue la invitación para poder probarlo más en profundidad.

Zoho Show lanzado, otro “powerpoint” online

Cada vez más va creciendo el mercado de productos ofimáticos vía web, y hoy se ha lanzado Zoho Show, otra aplicación web que nos permitirá crear pases de diapositivas, alojándolas vía web.

Como en otros productos similares, podemos editar las diapositivas con las justas herramientas de las que disponemos, como elegir tipo de fuente, tamaño, color, e incluso tenemos la posibilidad de subir nuestras imágenes en gif o jpg o bien incluir alguna imagen de flickr.

Podemos importar las presentaciones de Powerpoint (.ppt) y de OpenOffice.org (.sxi), además podemos indicar si las presentaciones que hagamos sean de acceso público o privado.

De todos modos, a mi me ha ido lento el servicio en realción a Thumbstacks, que incorpora mas herramientas y es más rápido, aunque tambien hay que decir que llevan mas tiempo en el mercado. En todo caso, te permiten probarlo sin necesidad de registrarte.

Streamick, directorio de televisiones que emiten por internet

Streamick es un directorio de canales de televisión cuyas emisiones se pueden seguira través de internet, y por ello este directorio tiene dividido a los canales en categorías por los cuales podemos movernos, además de disponer de su tag cloud con en el que las etiquetas serán más grandes cuanto más gente acceda a su contenido desde esta web.

Actualmente solo aceptan el envío de nuevos canales en lengua inglesa, sin aceptar canales de contenidos religiosos ni de adultos ni material con copyright.

Tan sólo deberemos de disponer de java instalado en nuestro equipo para poder ver las emisiones de cada uno de los canales, aunque tenemos la opción de hacer doble click sobre la misma ventana y disfrutar de la emisión en pantalla completa.

CTC Boston 2006 – People

I met some great folks at CTC Boston 2006. Here’s a sampling:

• Dr. Andrew McAfee is an Assistant Professor at the Harvard Business School, and author of the recent MIT Sloan Management Review article Enterprise 2.0: The Dawn of Emergent Collaboration and a great article entitled The Trends Underlying Enterprise 2.0. Dr. McAfee gave an amazing presentation at CTC. If your CEO or other executives in your company do not get Enterprise 2.0, if they do not understand how your company can benefit from flattening its management structure, work out a way to get Dr. McAfee to come in and speak to them.
• Stu Downes: Stu hails from the north of England, is an expert at Loutus Notes Development, and runs a great blog. His article on IBM’s new Web 2.0 tools for the enterprise is worth checking out.
• Dr. Phillip J. Windley runs the blog Technometria and is the author of the seminal Identity 2.0 book entitled Digital Identity. If your firm needs to understand how to deal with identity issues, get in touch with Dr. Windley. His presentation on Identity 2.0 provided a great explanation.
• Raju Vegensa is one of the many rock stars at Zoho. Zoho has built every whiz-bang Web 2.0 tool you can imagine: Word Processor, Spreadsheet, etc. They have a MajikWidget style mashet called Zoho Polls that is seriously cool. More on that soon.
• Lars Plougmann has justed started a Web 2.0 consulting firm that aims to help U.K. based companies create better, more productive, collaboration teams. The firm is called Zonoma, and judging by my conversations with Lars, I am sure Zonoma will be a hit.
• Jeffrey Treem writes Inside the Cubicle. Great blog!
• Mike Andrews is VP of Sales at Trumba. Trumba is 2nd generation Web 2.0 tool. It assumes you have a blog and have a need to communicate with your audience, and keep them up to date on important calendar events. I like it. It’s easy to use. It integrates with most calendars out there.
• Jnan Dash has 16 years of IBM and 10 years of Oracle under his belt. While at Oracle, he was Group Vice President, Systems Architecture and Technology. Super nice guy. Today, he is providing executive consultanting services to a series of start-ups. In the end, Silicon Valley is a small place, and the top guys all know each other. Jnan Dash is one of them.
• Dion Hinchliffe gave an amazing presentation at CTC. If you haven’t checked out Dion’s blog, I suggest you do so right away. If for no other reason that to see the amazing way he diagrams the interplay of Web 2.0 technology.
• Stowe Boyd was responsible for getting me to CTC in the first place. I’d like to say a very public thank you. I didn’t have much time to talk with Stowe, but it was just enough time for him to take me to task on the term “mashet”. Stowe thinks that these combinations of widgets and mash-ups should be called “Widge-ups“.
• John C. Beck from the North Star Leadership Group. They help companies implement learning through games. What more could you ask for?
• Ranvir Gujral who is the founder and CEO of stealth start-up InsightPath. I’m looking forward to seeing what he comes up with.
• Stephen Faris who is the CTO of HealthGate. HealthGate has a simple but powerful blog/wiki like communication system targeted at the health services industry.
• Ross Mayfield: famed blogger, and CEO of SocialText. Ross spent the conference perfecting his Phil Donahue impressions.

My previous post discussed how IBM is planning to use Web 2.0 software like wikis as a foundation upon which to build so-called situational software. These are instant applications which can be assembled just-in-time (and not created from scratch) from the rich pallette of services and feeds available on the Web and in the enterprise. They are situational because they can be created right as the situation they are needed for appears, and even thrown away when the reason for their existence goes away. This could also result in less requirements speculation and creep, two well known problems with longer, more drawn out development processes.
